Phoenix, Day 4

Today would be the conclusion of “Phoenix, Part 2, 2008”! Yes, this is my second trip to the Phoenix area this year, June was my trip to Scottsdale! I had a late check-out at the hotel, so I took advantage of some time to get in a long walk (exercise needed), take some pictures, and pick-up a magazine for the flight home. The weather was warm, the sky was beautifully blue, and it was my last day in Phoenix! I’ve come to enjoy and appreciate the desert, and I’ve already been making plans to return in the spring. I will be uploading photos of this trip soon. I forgot the USB cable when I was packing! Otherwise, you’d be seeing some photos with my post.

Phoenix, Day 3

Today I spent some time at two of Phoenix’s art galleries. First, the Heard Museum. This museum features Native American art and artifacts. What impressed me the most was the pottery! Most was made by Native American people through the years, and now has found a permanent home at the Heard Museum. My favorite exhibitions were the Hopi katsina dolls, over 500 on display, from the Barry Goldwater collection. An impressive array of Hopi Indian dolls, each unique and in itself, told a story. The other was the 30-foot glass and clay “art fence” by Tony Jojola. An impressive “fence” style wall of glass and clay!

Just two blocks from the Heard Museum is the Phoenix Art Museum. The PAM is an impressive building, filled with both contemporary and traditional works of art. One of the exhibitions, titled “One for All, All for One”, which explores the utilitarian beginnings of the jumpsuit. This exhibition follows the one-piece as it progresses and evolves into the often theorized garment of the future. Even an “Elvis” jumpsuit was featured!

Another warm and delightful day in the desert – knowing that tomorrow would mean returning back home! I’ve come to appreciate the beauty of the desert and the weather that comes with living here. I could easily see myself coming here in the winter months to escape the cold, rain and wetness of the Willamette Valley!

Phoenix, Day 2

It’s the second day in Phoenix, and very, very warm! Right now, approximately 5:30 pm, it’s nearly 100 degrees outside! I love it! It was sure good to sleep in this morning, something I’m not able to do very often. It felt wonderful to not get up and feel rushed to get started on a project or be somewhere! I just kicked back and relaxed.

Once I had “relaxed” over breakfast, it was time to get moving and exploring the nearby attractions. The hotel is very close, walkable in fact, to the Biltmore Fashion Park. This shopping and restaurant district is home to many upscale businesses. Several finds on clearance racks at Macy’s was the productive part of the morning, followed by coffee at Starbucks!

A trek to the Town & Country Plaza, directly across the street from my hotel, offered a host of stores and finds! I found several clearance-type stores, where merchandise gets a “last chance” for sale. I came away with nothing, but there’s still a couple days left! Incredible bargins on name brand items! It was great to see “Trader Joes” so close, which meant a shopping trip for food items in my hotel. Trader Joes has to be one of the best retailers in the country!

Tomorrow I’m planning to see the Heard Museum, and the Phoenix Art Museum. The hotel has a free shuttle within a five mile radius, so I plan to take advantage of the service!

More later on “Phoenix, Day 3”!

Phoenix!

It’s time again for a brief R & R! Back to the sun, desert and warmth of Phoenix! I’m looking forward to some time away from home, and to just relax and have fun! I’ve got some museums I would like to visit, along with discovering some new shopping venues! The hotel I will be at is close to a couple places I plan to check out!

I will update my blog from Phoenix! Stay tuned for my latest adventures and even some photos! (Digital photography is great!)

Flyertalk.com

For those who travel frequently, or belong to one of more of the many frequent traveler programs (air, hotel, car rental, etc), this site is for you! Flyertalk.com is the world’s most popular frequent flyer community. It’s a moderated forum where you can go to one of the many domestic or international airline’s forum and find out from the road warriors the inside scoop, horror stories, good stories, promotions, etc…It’s not moderated or controlled by the airlines or hotels. Need to find out about a particular hotel in a city? Go to Flyertalk and submit a question! You’ll get honest feedback about hotels, where not to stay, etc. When I have a travel question I go to Flyertalk! Idiscovered this great website several years ago and have found some very good information in the forums!

Picasa 3

If you take digital photos or have a large collection of digital images you use for various projects, you know how challenging it can be to keep them organized. What is nice about “Picasa” is 1) it’s a free program from Google; 2) it allows you to manage your photos and digital images in one place, and find photos you forgot you had; 3) allows you to edit them to fix red-eye, crop and more; 4) create photos into movies, collages, slide shows and more; and 5) share them by uploading seamlessly to Picasa Web Albums to share with friends, family and the world.

I have moved to the digital world for photography, and just uploaded over 200 pictures into Picasa. It is a fast and efficient way to organize not only photos but digital images. With maintaining web sites for myself and several other organizations, I have to keep digital images (logos, clip art, etc.) in some logical sense of organization!

Picasa 3 has just been launched and is available to download, at no cost! It’s a Google product, so you know it’s great! Visit the Picasa web site at http://picasa.google.com/
