What it Means to Move On

Many of you have been faced with the loss of a spouse, parent, sibling, good friend, or someone very close to you. Recently I ran across this piece and thought to myself, “let’s Blog this”. Here it is.

WHAT IT MEANS TO MOVE ON

Moving on does not mean…

  • You forget the person
  • You never feel the pain of your loss
  • You believe that life is fair

Moving on does mean…

  • You experience a lessening of the pain
  • You can treasure your best memories of the person who has died
  • You can realistically accept the different aspects of your loss
  • You can form new relationships, try new things

Moving on also means…

  • You grow in grace and in your walk with God
  • You accept your loss and forgive others
  • You understand that both joy and loss are a part of life
  • You believe that God is good, even when life isn’t

Travel Reward Sites Tracking Programs

42-20714131If you are a frequent traveler (flyer, hotel guest, car rental) you’ll want to check these sites out!  I have been using the “USA Today MileTracker” site for several years, and it’s very helpful. Once your create your account, and enter airline, car rental and hotel accounts, you have a one-stop place to view current balances, activity of your accounts. This downloadable application will retrieve and consolidate all your frequent flier and loyalty program account statuses, activities, and summaries. Plus, get the latest travel news and deals from USA TODAY. I really like this program.

The other program that I just recently discover is “Points.com” – a similar program to the one from USA Today, in that it  lets you manage your reward programs in one convenient location. In addition to managing reward programs, it also allows you to trade points and miles with other people, exchange points and miles between your programs, purchase points or miles and get the flight or reward you want, or grow you balance by shopping online.

Give these sites a try!

Green Room Moment

This was perhaps one of the most awesome weekends I have experienced in a very long time. Our Lead Pastor, John Stumbo, made an appearance in each of the five weekend worship services!

On Saturday evening prior to the 5:00 pm service, the worship team and band was asked to come to the green room and pray for the services. As we entered the green room, there stood Pastor John and his wife Joanna! I was taken back for just a moment but realized — we at Salem Alliance Church have experienced one of God’s miracles! We have seen what JEHOVAHROPHE: “The Lord Who Heals” [Ex. 15:22-26] has done in the life of our pastor. I felt honored and blessed to be standing in the same room with John at this moment, praying for him and over him. John’s presence at church this weekend reminded me of the teaching we had last fall about Jehovah-Rophe, the Lord who heals.

Prior to John’s personal sharing with the church family, we were given the opportunity to watch a video, narrated by John and Joanna about their journey since mid-October.

In the services, John told about God being there for us in the daylight and in the darkness, that He is always there. John gave us Psalm 139 as a key verse to remember in our own darkness, when we don’t think God is there. It says:

1 O LORD, you have searched me  and you know me. 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me  and the light become night around me,”   12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;  the night will shine like the day,  for darkness is as light to you.

One point that remains with me is when we feel like our life is not going the way it should for whatever reason (loss of job, loss of financial resources, relationships gone bad, etc…) there is HOPE! God has provided that hope for us if we come to Him and let Him into our heart!

Thank you to everyone who has been praying for our pastor since October, and continues to pray for him! John thanked the church family this weekend and was very appreciative of the many prayers!

I am hoping our church will post the video on www.salemalliance.org in order for the many people around the world to view!

Praying Psalm 37:4

Molasses Cookies

OK, your cookie jar will be so empty when you make these! These are better the next day. I made a double batch for a group with the plan to have “some left over” — ha ha ha!! I fooled me! They were gone in less than 30 minutes! These are very addictive!

Dale’s Soft Molasses Cookies

3/4 cup shortening
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 large egg
1/2 cup molasses
2 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon nutmeg (I use freshly grated nutmeg)

Cream the shortening and brown sugar. Stir in egg and molasses and mix well. Fold in dry ingredients and stir. Cover and chill until firm for at least 2 hours.

Preheat over to 350 degrees.

Roll dough into small balls and roll in white sugar. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet and bake for 9-10 minutes. DON’T OVER BAKE! Leave on sheet one minute until set.

40 minute | 30 minute prep time. Yield: cookies

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

drseuss09Today marks the birthday of the late, great Theodor Seuss Geisel, aka “Dr. Seuss” (1904-1991). Geisel authored more than sixty books under his famous pen name, and thirteen more as Theo. LeSeig (his name spelled backward). We all have a Seuss favorite that simultanously introduced us to the notion of “book” and launched our future careers as readers. My favorite was “The Cat in the Hat”, the first of many Seuss books! I have first edition copies of both “The Cat in the Hat” and “The Cat in the Hat Comesback”! As a former elementary teacher, these and the many others to follow, were favorites of mine!

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss! And thank you for the many wonderful books!
